After a while with an account in any bookstore or online shopping site, it can be easy to forget which password the account was started with. It isn't until its desperately needed that you need it at all.
This is usually the case when a password is lost for Kobo. Though the password is kept in their applications and their devices, when it is actually needed, there is no way to see what password the application or device is using. This can be a frustrating experience, especially when trying to contact Kobo about it.
After hours of trying to obtain the correct solution from Kobo, we found there are a couple of solutions for different cases, and kobo can help, but you need to ask them specifically to reset the password. Otherwise, you will be going back and forth in different emails, and eventually, they will reset the password for you.
Regardless of the reasons that you need your password, we have a few options to reset it.
To reset your password yourself if you lost it:
Go to kobo click on "Forgot Password"
Enter your email.
Click Submit.
Go to your email address and click the link in the email.
Create a new password.
Login to your account with the new password created.
Enter your email.
Click Submit.
Go to your email address and click the link in the email.
Create a new password.
Login to your account with the new password created.
To reset your kobo password if you just want a different one or lost your Kobo:
Go to Kobo and click on "My Account".
Enter your old password and then your new one twice.
Make sure you click on save, otherwise it was all for nought.
Enter your old password and then your new one twice.
Make sure you click on save, otherwise it was all for nought.
Once the account password is changed you can continue to log into your account with no problems downloading your books.
However, if you lost your Kobo device, or a device with the Kobo account on it, and you do not want others reading your books and buying books on your account, you will need to request that Kobo clear your billing information. A password reset will not actually stop anyone from purchasing unless they sign out of the account on the device or the application first.
This is also why it is very important to factory reset the device before giving it away. merely changing your password on the account is not going to do much as devices and apps do not reset themselves. Depending on your device the factory reset will be different. Kobo eReaders that are touch screen are similar in this area, but the original, wireless, and tablet devices differ. Its best to look those up instead of just changing a Kobo password on the Kobo account.
